Who else can find this relatable? I will finish sewing up a garment, immediately declare it as my newest “favourite make ever”… and then say the exact same thing about the next thing I make!
But this skirt? Yep. It is a total winner. I love everything about it. It truly is my favourite skirt I have made.

This year, I am planning to revisit more patterns that I have made and loved. I made the pinafore version of the Tilly and the Buttons Bobbi back in December 2021 in a festive mistletoe canvas; it is perfect for winter time, but I was needing a version that is less obviously Christmassy. I decided to make the skirt version this time around and started hunting for the perfect fabric. Bobbi works well with medium- to heavy-weight woven fabrics that can hold their shape well, like denim, canvas, drill or corduroy — unfortunately, the drapey viscoses in my stash were not going to cut it!

Luckily, I picked up 1.5m of this deadstock jacquard poly canvas, with an Impressionist-style print of pink, green and turquoise blossoms, from The New Craft House (one of my favourite fabric shops for true designer deadstock fabrics). This canvas is the perfect weight for the Bobbi skirt and it was super easy to handle, which made it a very quick and satisfying project. I made the skirt up in my standard size 3 for Tilly and the Buttons patterns, and whizzed through the instructions and construction. I love the gently curved waistband, the back princess seams, and the roomy hip pockets of this design. I had some silver shank buttons in my stash and they really complete the look.

I am honestly so thrilled with this project and I have already been wearing it a bunch — the Bobbi skirt is such a versatile pattern to have on hand. I adore the Monet-style print of this canvas, and I really regret not buying more, as a matching jacket in this fabric would have been sensational… I still have some pretty large offcuts remaining, so I will see if I can wangle something.

Also, how cool is the background for these photos? Simon and I were wandering around Haight & Ashbury and stumbled on this awesome mural. San Francisco has so many murals dotted across the city, I am hoping I will be able to see more on my next trips!
